Our Approach at JDW New Horizons

At JDW New Horizons, we work to provide a bespoke online therapy service. Our philosophy is rooted in the profound belief that no two individuals are the same, and neither should their journey to healing and fulfilment be. This core principle guides every interaction and shapes the personalised support we offer. When we work together, you'll find a compassionate space where your unique story, challenges, and aspirations are deeply respected. Our commitment is to understand your world, not to fit you into a pre-defined mould.

We will work together to explore your challenges, clarify your goals, and develop practical strategies. We integrate evidence-based practices with a genuine appreciation for your individual context, empowering you with the tools and insights needed to navigate life's complexities and achieve your desired outcomes. Your well-being and unique perspective are always at the heart of our work.

Evidence Based Practices

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy is an evidence-based therapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that helps individuals reduce their symptoms by gradually and repeatedly confronting their traumatic memories and avoided trauma-related situations, allowing them to process the trauma and learn that these experiences and reminders are not inherently dangerous.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based therapy specifically designed to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by helping individuals identify, challenge, and modify unhelpful or inaccurate thoughts and beliefs related to their trauma, themselves, others, and the world, thereby facilitating emotional processing and symptom reduction.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy primarily used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that involves an eight-phase approach where clients recall distressing memories while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation (most commonly eye movements, but also taps or tones). This process is believed to facilitate the brain's natural healing process, allowing for the desensitisation of traumatic memories and the reprocessing of associated negative thoughts and emotions into more adaptive ones.

Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy

Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy is a therapeutic technique used to address trauma, particularly PTSD, by modifying negative and traumatic memories. It involves using guided imagery to access and alter these memories, replacing victimising imagery with more positive and adaptive imagery. This process helps individuals to reprocess the trauma, reduce distress, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

  • PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a single, highly traumatic event (e.g., a car accident, a natural disaster, a one-time assault).

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) is a related but distinct condition that results from prolonged, repeated, and inescapable exposure to interpersonal trauma, often in childhood or in contexts where the victim is under the control of the perpetrator (e.g., chronic child abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, prolonged captivity).

Anxiety and depression frequently accompany C-PTSD because the prolonged, inescapable trauma fundamentally rewires the brain for constant threat (anxiety) and instills deep feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness (depression).

  • This 20-minute free online consultation is designed to be a starting point where we can determine if my approach aligns with your needs. I'll briefly outline my role as a supportive guide and explain my structured, three-phased therapeutic process: beginning with a assessment to understand your unique situation, moving into an active phase using evidence-based techniques tailored to your goals, and concluding with a focus on future resilience and relapse prevention.

In turn, you'll have the opportunity to share a brief overview of what's brought you to seek counselling and what you hope to achieve. This allows us to mutually assess compatibility and discuss the practical next steps for potentially beginning our work together.

  • I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation. This session is an opportunity for us to meet, discuss your needs, and for me to explain my therapeutic approach, ensuring we are a good fit before committing to ongoing sessions.

Following this initial consultation, my standard fee for each 60-minute counselling session is £115 per hour.

I understand that financial circumstances can vary, and I am committed to making therapy accessible. Therefore, I offer a sliding scale discount of 20% for individuals who are students and 30% for individuals receiving benefits. To qualify for this reduced rate, I kindly request proof of student status or benefit entitlement.
